Projects in Andaman and Nicobar Islands

Name:-Prayas Michael and Susan Del Foundation(MSDF) Project
State:-Andaman & Nicobar
Areas covered:-Port Blair
Working with:-Children and families worst affected by the Tsunami
Major issues:-
In December 2004 the Indian Ocean sunami struck the Andoman & Nicobar Islands, destroying entire villages and killing thousands. Many lost their families, homes and businesses. Coastal communities were left without schools, health centres and water.

Objective:-
To deliver health care, counselling, nutrition, education and livelihood support to the sunami affected people and help in rebuilding their lives .

The Project:-
The sunami emergency relief effort is long over, but Prayas continues to expand its recovery and rehabilitation effort in the islands. With the support of Michael and Susan Del Foundation, Prayas has organized relief camps to provide mobile health care to the population. Livelihood support is offered to the worst victims so they can get their lives back on track. Many vulnerable people in extreme need, such as teenagers and the elderly, are given emergency assistance. At present, over 500 children and 200 families are benefiting from this initiative.
