In order to bring about empowerment through inclusive skill development and to create the opportunities for youth of naxal affected rural areas, as a significant step, Prayas has joined hands with Ministry of Rural Development and launched Swaran Jayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana- Special project in Bihar (Gaya, Nawada, Jehanabad) & Jharkhand (Hazaribagh and Ramgarh) to provide time bound placements assured training to 2000 BPL youth/women in Retail, Hospitality, Automobile & IT Sector coupled with personality development life skill training.

The aim of the project is to uplift downtrodden people, promote community livelihood programs and empower rural population through skill development and income generating activities.

In this pilot project, Prayas is committed to identify most needy BPL youth/ women and train them in technical as well as soft skill to employ them on wage employment in order to make them self sustainable. Starting with these employment led skill development program, Prayas has identified the urgent need of the local community and intervened into various community development programs with the help of local administration based on its past 24 years experience of community empowerment integrated development program. In this regard, Prayas high level team conducted series of meetings with the District Magistrates/ Deputy Commissioners, District Development Officers and other administrative Officials and also held community meetings to understand the local needs in the above said 5 districts to share the views and the Prayas integrated approach towards the inclusive development and livelihood promotions in these rural areas

Prayas started this project in June 2012 and since then has trained 867 youth out of which 519 are already working and have got settled.

To carry out training & placement activities, Prayas has developed its Infrastructure in Bihar at Gaya and Jharkhand at Ranchi & Hazaribagh and also providing accommodation (includes three meals a day, bedding, toiletries, medical assistance etc) facility to the trainees coming from interiors.

A team of over 30 members has been created which consists of Finance Controller, Finance Manager MIS In charge, Placement In charge, Post Placement Tracking In charge, trainers, soft skill trainers, Community mobilizers , Hostel warden, cooks etc. to carry out the training vis a vis. Project effectively.

Project Objectives

  1. Bridging the skill gap.
  2. Offer viable career and employment opportunities to socially and economically vulnerable population.
  3. Demonstrate innovative approaches and scale-up successful initiatives
  4. To cover poorly educated rural youth/ urban slum dwellers un-employed youth from BPL category.
  5. Tie-up with industries to reduce the mismatch between the demand & supply of skilled manpower in market driven trades.
  6. To create new skills among youth & women to inspire them to set up their own training centers in their areas for multiple impact.
  7. Replication of the successful models to different centers for multiple effects.
  8. Programmes with high quality short/ long term flexible training and placement opportunities consistent with employer’s needs and demands.
  9. Each skill set to be necessarily coupled with life-skills programme.
  10. Market scan to map employer and industry demands.
  11. Developing new training materials (including soft and workplace readiness skills) for industry-ready recruitments.
  12. Development of skills certification programmes.
  13. Blinking job seekers to job providers.
