  • Rape Crisis Intervention Centre (RCIC) set up in June 2000 through Prayas in nine districts of Delhi in collaboration with the Delhi Commission for Women and Delhi Police. It caters to the social and rehabilitative needs of girls in the age group of 6-18 years who are victims of acute forms of violence including rape
  • Prayas organized a National Consultation in July 2000 on trafficking of women and children to assess the impact of the National Level Action Plan on Trafficking prepared by the Department of Women and Child Development, Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
  • In 2000, Ministry of HRD selected Prayas for running a Jan Shikshan Sansthan in Delhi. Jan Shikshan Sansthan Prayas, was launched on 12th August 2000 and started functioning simultaneously with its Head Office at Prayas Juvenile Aid Centre (JAC), Jahangirpuri, North Delhi and a branch office at Prayas Institute of Juvenile Justice at Tughlakabad, South Delhi
  • Prayas instrumental in the drafting of the new Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000, which is much more than a social legislation. It serves as a ‘blueprint of Child Welfare and Development in India’
  • Prayas becomes the key member of the City Level Task Force, for the rehabilitation of street children constituted by the Ministry of Social Welfare

  • In February 2000, Prayas organized a pre-budget Interface of the leading NGOs, funding agencies and bureaucrats with NGOs, in which the then Finance Minister of the country, Mr. Yashwant Sinha and Secretaries of various ministries including the Ministry of Human Resource Development participated. In this interface, issues pertaining to children and their share in the national budget education were discussed.
  • In the budget that was presented to the Parliament, an actual increase in the budget on primary education was made, although the overall budget on education remained unchanged. Similar pre-budget discussions were organized by Prayas with Ms. Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition and Mr. Jyotiraditya Scindhiya, Member of Parliament which were attended by MPs. MLAs and experts in 2001 and 2002.
  • Krishan Bihari Vajpayee Library Project – Prayas Vachnalaya – The Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee, instituted library for children of Prayas Institute of Juvenile Justice (PIJJ) library at the Prayas Tughlakabad in memory of his late father Shri Krishan Bihari Vajpayee. He contributed proceeds from the sale of his book, compilation of his poem.
2001
  • In response to the needs of the killer earthquake, specifically to the needs of the children, Prayas launched, “Prayas Sneh Samudaya Project” in Gujarat, on March 7, 2001

  • An Introspective Workshop on ‘Rape Crisis Intervention Centres (RCIC)’ jointly organised by Delhi Police and Prayas in August 2001, to review the functioning of RCIC in the past one-year
  • Prayas Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) completed one year of working closely with the disadvantaged groups by providing vocational training and skill development programs and Non-Formal Education (NFE). The Union Minister of HRD, Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi, released the annual report of Prayas “Prayas Reflections 2000-01 as well as the annual report of JSS entitled “SAMBHAV” on the occasion.
  • Prayas NIOS programme assessed from the fact that hundred and sixty children were enrolled in the NIOS during the year 2001-02.
  • Inaugurated a bakery unit by the Union Minister of HRD, Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi and set up with the assistance of Rotary Club of Delhi, South End. Dr. Joshi lauded the efforts of Prayas and called it as a model for other NGOs
  • Mr. Amod K. Kanth was a part of the Indian delegations, headed by the Prime Minister of India Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Union Minister of Human Resource Development, Mr. Murli Manohar Joshi, to the UN special session on children held on 19-21, September 2001 in New York. It was a great honor for Prayas that its work at the national level and its contributions in the National and International forum have been recognized
  • Prayas celebrated the Girl Child Week (17th-22nd Sept), ‘PRERNA’ – Chhuna Hain Aasman’ Prayas organized a Consultation on the Role of NGOs in the Implementation of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children), Act, 2000, on 22nd December 2001 to stress on the need of spreading awareness about the new Act among the civil society.
  • Kalashrishti Prayas children perform in UNIFEM’s Media Festival at Kolkata “Voices against Violence”. Kalasrishti Prayas is a media advocacy group comprising more than 1000 children from various Prayas shelter homes and communities. It provides a platform for street and working children to express their ideas through street plays, songs and dances.
  • A Consultation Meet on Juvenile Justice Act 2000 organized by Prayas. Mr. S. N. Jatiya, Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment also released a film “Uday” made by Prayas which highlights some of the features of the Act.

  • Prayas, WOREC (Nepal), ABC (Nepal) and UNIFEM organized a two-day consultation “NGO Partnership in Rescue and Rehabilitation of the persons affected by Human Trafficking in South Asia” from 24th- 25th July, 2002 . The consultation drew participants from NGOs from India, Bangladesh and Nepal. It aimed to address the growing concern on rescue and rehabilitation issues at the national and international level and find workable solutions

  • Bihar Voluntary Coordinating Agency (BVCA), the only statutory body (Supreme Court orders) for promotion & regulation of adoptions under JJ Act 2000 / HAMA, being run in the states of Bihar & Jharkhand. The Bihar Voluntary Coordinating Agency is a project of Prayas alongwith a leading NGO based in Bihar. The project is being supported through funds from TDH, Germany
  • Mr. Amod Kanth interaction at the highest level at the U.S Department of State and Justice, resulted the participation of Prayas in consultation organized by the then Secretary Mr. Colin Luther Powell on September 23-26, 2003 in association with the NGO, ‘War against Trafficking Alliance’. He presented paper on ‘Path-Breaking Strategies in the Global Fight Against Sex Trafficking’, Washington, D.C., attended by nearly 150 delegates, including Ambassadors & Hon’ble Ministers and also some heads of the Government.

2004
  • Children Hope Prayas launched in 1st January 2004
  • Prayas was started a Railway Platform Children-Rescue and Restoration Project in July, 2004
  • Prayas with the support of Railway Children, U.K., for the first time, initiated its activities for Railway Children in the year 2004. Initially it started with its work at Samastipur railway station, Bihar and New Delhi Railway Station, Delhi.
  • Prayas Constitution was adopted on the 15th day of June 2004 by Prayas International United Kingdom (UK) Registration No. 1105664
  • The Special Juvenile Police Unit (SJPU), created under the new law, shall be exclusively to deal with ‘juveniles in conflict with law’ and ‘children in need of care and protection’.
  • In the midst of these developments, ‘Prayas Home for Girls’, situated at Tughlakabad Institutional Area, New Delhi-110062, the then Deputy Secretary of United States Mr. Richard Lee Armitage was visited on July 14, 2004 and for cordial interaction with the children of Prayas.
  • Direct intervention by Prayas in protecting the rights of the children of Andamans, protecting them from trafficking and other forms of exploitation and starting of the process of rehabilitation of children adversely affected by Tsunami.

  • Dweep Prayas was established at Andaman and Nicobar Islands
  • CHILDLINE is a 24-hour free emergency telephone helpline (toll free no. 1098) which was formally launched by Smt. Meira Kumar, Union Minister for MoSJ&E on 7th January 2005 in Port Blair, A&N Islands. Prayas in collaboration with Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment GOI started “Tsunami emergency Childline” for children in need of care and protection.
  • Prayas Shelter Home was established at Motihari

  • The Trafficking in Persons Report (TIP) 2005, released by the US Department of State recognizes the then DGP Arunachal Pradesh Mr. Amod Kanth, founder Secretary Prayas, as a model of public service to the vulnerable children of India and Prayas as one of the world’s best practices.
  • The year 2004 and 2005 was very fruitful and significant for Prayas as Prayas intervention in preventing trafficking of women and children was well recognized in report released by the ‘US Department of State’ titled, ‘Trafficking in Person Report 2005’ and he was acknowledged as ‘Global Hero’ and Prayas for its best practices in the fight against Human Trafficking.

  • Prayas’ Response to Union Budget 2007-08
  • Prayas-RPF Mitr Yojana Mission: Protecting Railway Children: Proceedings of the sharing of Prayas work with the RPF held at Brar Square, New Delhi on 31st August 2007 and meeting was conducted by Mr. M.K. Sinha, the then Director General, RPF to share the experiences of cooperative collaborative working between Prayas and the RPF. RPF-Prayas Mitra Yojana aims to strengthen contact and information network between RPF and such Railway passengers/public who have been helped by RPF at some point of time.

  • Railway Prayas Project was started with an objective to help all those innocent children who are found at Railway Platforms with no guardian and are vulnerable to trafficking, abuse, beggary or any other anti-social activity. We as members of this project from PRAYAS feel very proud in saying that we are able to help many children through this since we started this effort with the help of Saga Charitable Trust in September, 2008.
2009
  • Registration of Sanchay Prayas Swavlamban Sansthan (SPSS) is this day incorporated under Section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956 (No.1 of 1956) on 18th Feb 2009.
  • On 26th Feb. 2009 letter no. 6-4/2008-AE-3, the Ministry of HRD GOI has approved the ‘Jan Shikshan Sansthan’ project for Prayas Samastipur. Prayas entered in to the agreement on 02nd March 2009 and launched our activities from 04th March 2009.
  • Prayas has been given third opportunity to organize Basant Saras Mela by the Govt. of Bihar in the year 2009.

2010
  • Railway Prayas making this a regular feature, once again organised Bal Sabhas with children at New Delhi Railway Station on 8th May, 2010 and at Old Delhi Railway Station on 21st May, 2010 where apprx. 40 children were made to engage in meaningful discussions related to their families, future, problems at railway platforms and fear related to going to various shelter homes. The booths of Prayas at {New Delhi Railway Station}, {Old Delhi Railway Station}, {Nizzamuddin Railway Station}, Lahori Gate/Nabi Karim Centre}
  • Several correspondences addressed to Prayas by the then General Manager Northern Railways, Mr. Shri Prakash and Director General, R.P.F., Mr. M. K. Sinha, about the partnership Prayas and Railway Protection Force can have regarding the same and the initiatives like R.P.F. Mitra Yojna, Child Assistance booths, drop-in centres etc.

  • From 1 April 2016, the Prayas Juvenile Aid Centre has taken over the Children’s Home Purnea from the District Nodal officer of Social Welfare Department, BASA, ADCP, Purnea.
2017
  • Children’s Home Samastipur with the support of Social Welfare Department, Govt of Bihar
  • Tata Power Microgrid Plant inaugurated on 24th January 2017 at Tayabpur & Bhalolpur
  • Tata Power Microgrid Plant inauguration program to be decided for Bhalolpur centre
  • Residential Special learning centre for child labour at Gaya, Patna & Jamaui has been sanctioned by the Labour Dept. Bihar
2018
  • Children’s Home – Gaya, Patna & Jumai with the support of Social Welfare Department, Govt of Bihar
  • Prayas JAC Society signed MoU with RWCCO in presence of Chairman Railway Board, Mr. Ashwani Lohani and his wife Ms. Arunima Lohani, President (RWCCO) for setting-up short stay shelter home/child help-desk for children in contact with the railways at six (06) stations, namely, Delhi, Jaipur, Samastipur, Danapur, Guwahati and Ahmedabad on 7th Sept 2018.
  • Prayas-RWCCO Short Stay Shelter Home for children in contact with the Railways, Delhi was inaugurated at Lahori gate near Parcel Station, New Delhi Railway Station on 3rd Oct. 2018 by Ms. Arunima Lohani, President RWCCO in presence of Chairman and senior officials of Railway Board.
2019
  • Smart Classes inaugurated for Children – Delhi, Motihari, Teok, Ranchi & Jaipur with the support of AIATSC (Air India)
  • Capt. Ashvini Sharma, CEO AITSL (Air Transport Services Limited), T3 Delhi Airport, visited the Prayas Shelter Home for Girls on 8th May 2019.
  • On January 24, a new Solar Microgrid plant project of Prayas was inaugurated by DM, Vaishali, Bihar and its was established in Tayabpur village to provide electricity to inhabitants of nearby villages, the project was successfully collaborated with five Agencies Tata Trust, Prayas, Tata power Delhi Distribution Ltd. (TPDDL), General Electric (GE) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT).
  • Prayas signed a contract for new projects with BSES Power Limited on Jan 2019, as part of this project, two new initiatives were started for the community- a Women’s Literacy Centre (WLC) and Project Jyothi in JJ Clusters.
  • MOU signed between Prayas and NFRWWO on 3rd April 2019 at Guwahati
  • MOU signed between Prayas and TPDDL for VTC, Abha Ambassador, CWLC, EWL & LED Projects for the FY – 2019-2020.
  • Prayas Project with Jumo World is on “Financial Inclusion for Domestic Workers and Marginalized Population of Society” on 9th April 2019
  • GM, Mr. Anurag Kapoor, Schneider Electrical India visited at Jahangirpuri to develop a partnership with Prayas on Electrical Trade on 27th Apr 2019
  • The Danapur Railway Short Stay Shelter home was inaugurated by the DRM, Danapur in the gracious presence of the General Secretary, Prayas and other members of RPF, GRP, Ground staff of Railway on 18th Sept. 2019.
2020
  • Prayas Health Service (PHS) & Isolation Centres:To provide support services to the children and homeless people infected with COVID-19, Prayas set up five ‘Isolation Centres’ at Geeta Colony, (East Delhi), Tughlakabad (South Delhi), Jahangirpuri (North Delhi), PHS –Kirti Nagar (Central Delhi) and Chota Bazaar (North East Delhi) and similar Isolation Centres is coming up in Samastipur, Motihari, Bettiah, Patna (Bihar) Jaipur (Rajasthan) and Ranchi (Jharkhand).
  • Waste Management Project awarded by Coca-Cola Foundation for Rag-pickers at Prayas Children’s Home, Jahangirpuri, Delhi for 2 years period from 01st March 2020 to 28th February 2022

  • 03 Jan Shikshan Sansthan Centres awarded by Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Govt. of India to Prayas JAC Society on 30th June 2021
