SMILE Project — Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir

The SMILE Project, implemented by Prayas JAC Society under the Support for Marginalized Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise (SMILE) Scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, focuses on the rehabilitation and social reintegration of individuals engaged in begging in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir.


Outreach & Awareness

The initiative began with surveys and data collection across Srinagar to identify vulnerable individuals and understand their needs. Awareness campaigns, community meetings, social media outreach, and public engagement activities were conducted to promote awareness regarding rehabilitation opportunities and encourage community participation.

Rehabilitation Home

A rehabilitation home was established in Srinagar to provide accommodation, medical care, counselling, and skill development support. Vocational training programmes included tailoring, LED bulb manufacturing, carpentry, agriculture, and horticulture-based activities to encourage sustainable livelihoods.


Our Commitment

The initiative has supported the rescue and rehabilitation of vulnerable individuals from streets, marketplaces, hospitals, and public spaces, while also facilitating rehabilitation, counselling, and alternative livelihood opportunities with dignity and care.
