Prayas Children’s Home-Boys

The Children's Home for Boys located at Jahangirpuri, for neglected, street and working children was launched in January 1999, as a pilot project of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India. At Jahangirpuri, approximately 3 lakhs people live in slum clusters adjacent to Asia's largest vegetable and fruit market (Azadpur). It has the largest concentration of street, working and destitute children. The construction cost for the home was borne by the Planning Commission. The Home addresses the problem of neglected street and working children. Prayas has undertaken number of initiatives such as non-institutional care, under the new Juvenile Justice Act, 2000 and has successfully implemented an integrated programme for the rehabilitation of neglected children with the support of the Ministry Social Justice & Empowerment.
