Ensuring Access to Justice for Children Project

The project ‘Ensuring Access to Justice for children’ aspires to achieve end-to-end justice for the child victims of sexual abuse, labour and trafficking. To achieve on the ground functional and behavioural goals as envisioned under the project in close coordination and collaboration of the various stakeholders. This project is undertaken by Prayas JAC Society in January, 2022 which is supported by Kailash Stayarthi Children’s Foundation (KSCF).

The key objectives of this project are:
  • To provide psycho-social support to victims.
  • To provide legal aid and representation to victims.
  • To identify child labour and child trafficking victims and conduct raid and rescue operations.
  • To ensure informed participation of the victims in all stages of investigation and trial.
  • To minimize pendency by encouraging and supporting the victims and the witnesses to appear in courtrooms in a time-bound manner.
  • To ensure time bound disbursement of interim and final compensation
  • To ensure time bound investigation and trial.
  • To ensure confidentiality of the victims and their family members throughout the process of investigation and trial.
  • To work towards effective rehabilitation of children.
  • To work with convergence with stakeholders that are accountable for the implementation of laws relating to protection of children, particularly the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, The Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956 and The Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 in order to create child friendly ecosystem.

The ultimate goal of this project is to work towards improving their experience when they come in contact with the criminal justice system and thereby ensuring justice for victims of cases of child sexual abuse, child labour and child trafficking. This goal can be achieved only by supporting victim’s right from helping them in the process of registration of FIR till disbursement of final compensation amount and even further in assisting the system in carving rehabilitation plan for them. This project is currently being implemented by Prayas in 10 districts of Bihar as well as Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and Andaman in partnership with 4 NGO partners.
