Childline (1098) Prayas State :-Delhi, Andaman & Nicobar Areas covered :-Zone of Delhi and parts of Andaman & Nicobar Working with :-in need of Welfare, care, protection and rehabilitation

Major issues :-

Provision of referral services to children in need of welfare care and rehabilitation, 24 hr child helpline with a toll free no. 1098.

Objective:-

To reach out to every child in need of care & protection by responding to emergencies on 1098 and to ensure access of technology to the most marginalized in urban as well as rural areas & connectivity of 1098 through government telephone exchanges as well as private exchanges. The project also works together with the allied system to create child friendly systems. The project not only provides a platform of networking amongst organizations but also provide linkages to support systems, which facilitate the rehabilitation of children in need of care & protection.

The Project:-

CHILDLINE 1098 is a 24-hour free emergency telephone help line for children in need of care and protection. It’s a project of Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment Govt. of India. It’s operating in 72 cities all over India. In Andaman & Nicobar Childline came into existence on 7th January 2005 post Tsunami at South Andaman & Little Andaman and in Delhi its branch came into operation on 2nd October 1998. Childline aims to reach out to the most marginalized children between the age group of 0-18 years, and provides interventions of shelter, medical, repatriation, rescue, death related, sponsorship and emotional support and guidance.

Our activities include door to door awareness program on daily basis, School awareness program, Aganwadi visits, Community meetings, Open House programs, Special events with children, and weekly awareness programs etc. We also help families of the needy children by providing them with ration kits.

We receive calls on daily basis from children, their parents and even from police stations and we meet them. Our team assists children who are in need of care and protection, provide emotional support and guidance and counselling.  Children who are abused physically, mentally or sexually in the workplace or who are in need of medical assistance are also taken care by Childline.
