Jan Shikshan Sansthan -South Andaman

Jan Shikshan Sansthan formerly known as Shramik Vidyapeeth started its operations in South Andaman District in the first week of October 2021.  The approval letter with the names of 58 other NGOs was received by us on June 30, 2021, and the registration of the society was completed by September 22, 2021.  The inauguration ceremony of JSS South Andaman was held on 2nd October 2021 in Tusnabad Panchayat hall and we were overwhelmed with the response we received.

We started by setting up centers in Habertabad, Namunaghar, Tusnabad to name a few, which are the most rural parts of the South Andaman district. Within few months, we saw a rise in the   number of enrollments and we started operating in a total of 13 centers, where vocational training on 16 traits was being provided. Apart from skill development we also conducted capacity building programs in which we educated the candidates about how our project is helping the underprivileged section of the society to be self-sufficient and earn their living.  As the majority of our enrollees were females and we conducted programs on Women’s day in various centers as a token of appreciation where altogether 200 women participated. A total of 900 candidates were trained and accessed during the period of October 21 to March 22.

Few of the candidates who enrolled for the room attendant courses with us, have been placed in the same hotel where they were trained. We saw the same trend with some of the candidates who attended the automotive welding course, which shows the program has genuinely helped to generate employment opportunities. Many candidates who were trained in tailoring expressed interest in buying sewing machines so that they can set up a business from their home itself.
