A Medicolegal conclave on “Bridging Barriers” – jointly organised by AaKRITI (Advance Awareness Knowledge Research Information and Training Initiative) and HARObGyn

(Haryana Association of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists), on 7 May, 2023 at Hotel Lalit, New Delhi. Mr. Amod K. Kanth graced his presence as an esteemed #chiefguest of the said #event . Mr. Kanth started by thanking all the delegates of the AaKRITI for inviting him in the insightful conference. As an Rtd. and #decorated police officer in 2 #states and ex-DGP, Mr. Kanth had dealt with various kinds and number of legal cases. Mr. Kanth talked about "Conspiracy of Silence, mentioned in the National Study on #childabuse " conducted by Prayas with the support of Ministry of WCD Govt of India, UNICEF & Save the Children, India, wherein abuse are of 4 types i.e. #physicalabuse, #sexualabuse , #economicabuse and #neglect . The study reflected that there is a #conspiracyofsilence in the Indian traditional norms where child abuse is not talked about. The study also highlighted that 54 % of the children reported sexual abuse, out of which male children were found equally abused in the same manner that of the female children. Different forms of sexual abuse are defined in #indianpenalcode 1860, POCSO Act, 2012 and #criminallaw (Amendment) Act, 2013. #pocso is a gender neutral act and protects all children. Role of doctors is very important which is defined under Sec 19, 20 and 21 POCSO as mandatory reporting, because doctors are the first authority who directly deals with the victims/ get information of abuse. The first round of panel expert member for the discussion of the event were: Dr. Ruchi Aggarwal Asrani-ASJ (FTSC) (POCSO); Ms Bharti Ali , Co-Founder & Director HAQ- Centre for Child Rights; Mr. Amod Kanth, General Secretary Prayas JAC Society, Former Director General of Police; Dr. Rita Bakshi, Director AaKRITI ; Hon'ble Justice Mukta Gupta, Chairperson JJ Committee, Delhi High Court.
