Mr. Indrasing Chauhan, District Program Coordinator of Prayas, invited to speak on responsibilities of Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and POCSO Act

A sensitization program was conducted on 25th February, 2023 where Mr. Indrasing Chauhan, District Program Coordinator of Prayas JAC was invited as a speaker to provide sensitization to Special PP on the roles and responsibilities of Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and POCSO Act. The Training program was planned by the Prosecution Director, Mr. Jagroop Singh Rajput, Joint Director, Ms. Nidhi Chaudhary, IPS and Deputy Director, Mr. Rakesh Rao and around 120 Special PP from 33 districts of Gujarat were physically present. Mr. Indrasing Chauhan, oriented and sensitized the Special PP on the roles and responsibilities of CWC and POCSO Act. The Legal Officer, Mr. Prakash Pandya, Legal Assistant, Mr. Faraj Khan Pathan and Outreach worker, Mr. Mayur Prajapati also participated in the event. The session started by introducing the activities of Prayas JAC under Access to Justice project. During the session, the Juvenile Justice Act (JJ) was explained to the listeners which included the definition of a child and their basic rights, which are as follows: 1) Right to Life 2) Right to Development 3) Right to Protection 4) Right to Participation The origin of Child Rights and child related different laws such as Juvenile Justice Act, Child Labour and Prohibition Act, Right to Education, Child Marriage Act, Victim Compensation Scheme, Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act, National Child Policy, Pre-Conception & Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, National Child charter 2008, Commission for Protection of Child Right Act, 2005, various categories of Children in JJ Act, categories of Children in Need of Care & Protection children, CWC details as per JJ Act- roles and responsibilities and recruitment of CWC, power and authority under CWC, Production of child in front of CWC by different stakeholders, responsibilities of CWC under JJ Act Section 30, reporting of missing children as per JJ Act, Section 32 and roles of CWC, enquiry of a child and order under section 36 and 37 of JJ Act, inspection and registration of child care institution under section 41 of JJ act were discussed.
